The Arena Beckons

Every year, the land's most powerful wizards gather to make their homunculi - creatures of clay, blood, and a heavy helping of magic - duke it out for the grand prize.

You are unfortunate enough to be one of those homunculi.

This is an (extremely unfinished) entry for GodotWild Jam #77. Currently there exists only a "training mode" against a dummy, and only a single functioning transformation. Take this as a proof of concept.

THEME: Metamorphosis
WILDCARDS USED: Natural 20, Exchange

Instructions

  • Arrow keys to move
  • Z: Light attack
  • X: Heavy attack
  • C or tap Z and X: Special attack
  • Hold Z and X: Transform (see below)

Your Body is Unstable

The blue bar underneath your health bar is your stability -- your ability to maintain your present form. As you deal and take damage*, your stability decreases, reducing your defense. Transform to regain your stability!

* Or rather just deal damage, since the dummy can't attack you... yet.

Roll the Dice

Whenever you land a hit, the four-sided die on the top of the screen gets jostled. The once the die's been jostled enough, it will roll, revealing one of the 4* homunculus forms. Press and hold Z and X to unleash a devastating attack and take that form.

* Well, currently 2.

The Forms of Enmity

Fighting homunculi adopt different forms in battle. Here are those available so far:

Simplimunculum

The base form of all homunculi. A sad little creature in a black hood. Distinguished by its lack of distinguishing features. At least it can throw fire balls. Balanced and versatile, in its way, I suppose.

Homunculus Serpens

As stupid as it ugly and as brutal as it is stupid. Armoured by its scale and bulk, it attacks without relent. At least it's not very quick.

Homunculus Serpens does not yet have a special attack nor the ability to transform.

Known Bugs

  • The die sometimes goes flying off the screen and stops working. Didn't have time to fix this. Serves me right for trying to animate it using the physics engine. Fixed!
  • "Transforming" from simplimunculum to simplimunculum twice in a row causes the game to crash.
  • Transforming at all breaks the stability meter. Stability still resets on transforming and decreases at the same rate, but the meter no longer shows it.
